1. Who can use Our Neighbourhood
You need to be at least 13 years old to create your own account. Younger kids can use a kid account instead — view-only, no posting or commenting, set up and approved by the adult who owns their household's address. We rely on people being honest about their age when they sign up; if we find an account was set up by someone under 13 without that approval, we'll remove it.
An account is for one real person (or one real business). Sharing your login, or running accounts for people who don't exist, isn't allowed.
2. Your address
Claiming an address with its letterbox code is what unlocks your street and suburb groups. The code only works for someone who actually lives there — using a code that isn't yours, or claiming an address you don't live at, breaks these terms and can get your account removed.
Your exact address and letterbox code are never shown to anyone else, including other members of your street group. See the privacy policy for how that's handled.
3. What you post
Our Neighbourhood has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. This means no hate speech, no threats or incitement to violence, no harassment, no bullying, no pornographic or graphically violent material, and no content that exploits or endangers anyone, especially a minor. This applies to every post and comment, whether posted under your name or anonymously.
Everything you post — a lost cat, a council update, a business review — should be genuine. Two things matter more than the rest:
- Crime posts have to be real. A crime alert reaches your whole street, or your whole suburb, at any hour. If we believe a crime post wasn't genuine — made up, exaggerated to cause alarm, or posted to harass someone — we can remove your account and ban you from Our Neighbourhood, without a refund of anything you've paid.
- No impersonation, harassment, or targeting a real person. This includes posting anonymously to get around that rule — anonymous posting hides your name from other members, not from us.
You own what you post. By posting it, you're giving Our Neighbourhood the right to show it to the people it's meant for — your street, your suburb, or the whole app, depending on where you sent it.
Reporting and blocking. Every post and comment has a report button, and you can block any user so you never see their content again — both work immediately, no need to wait for us. We act on a report within 24 hours: if it breaks these terms, we remove the content and eject the account that posted it. You can also remove your own post from the feed at any time.
To report inappropriate activity, contact us directly through the support page, or email [email protected].
We can remove a post, or a comment, that breaks these rules, and we look into anything reported to us. Repeated or serious breaches can end in your account being suspended or removed.
4. Business listings and plans
A business listing is free: a full page with your name, category, hours, contact details and photos, and you can post and comment like anyone else. Two paid plans add more:
- Featured ($29.99/month) — everything in the free listing, ranks higher in the business directory, and two pushes a month to your own followers.
- Partner ($99/month) — everything in Featured, plus a tick in your city's colour, four pushes a month to your own followers, and one suburb-wide push a month.
Paid plans are monthly subscriptions bought inside the app with your Apple ID. Apple takes the payment and the subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel it in your Apple ID settings, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Cancelling stops the plan at the end of the period you've already paid for; it doesn't refund the current period.
5. Household billing
The person who owns an address is free. Each extra person living there is 99¢ a month. The household owner buys seats in the app (1 to 5 extra people: $0.99, $1.99, $2.99, $3.99 or $4.99 a month) with their Apple ID, and anyone they let in takes up a spare seat. Seats renew automatically each month until the owner cancels them in their Apple ID settings, at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
6. Refunds
Plans and household seats are billed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple. You can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something's genuinely gone wrong — a duplicate charge, a plan you were charged for after cancelling — email us and we'll help you sort it out.
7. Ending your account
You can delete your account any time from the You tab in the app — see the privacy policy for what happens to your data and your posts when you do.
We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms. Where we can, we'll tell you why. A removed business account loses its paid plan's benefits straight away, and we don't refund any period already paid for if the removal was for breaking these terms.
8. No promises about content, no liability for it
What people post is theirs, not ours — we don't check every post before it goes up, and we can't promise everything on Our Neighbourhood is accurate. Use your own judgement, especially with anything posted about a person or a business. We're not liable for loss or harm arising from something a member posted, to the extent the law allows us to say so.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Our Neighbourhood after that means you accept the update.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Queensland, Australia, and any dispute is handled in the courts of Queensland.
